Conversion Story
You Can Get Out If You Want
4/1/09I first became aware of the Osmond's membership in the church when I tried to find the meaning of the art on the paper inner sleeve of The Plan. It had a hand holding a rock, with the caption,"Kolob, the first creation, Abraham 3:3-16". I searched the library for information. I took home a Book of Mormon, Woman and the Priesthood, and Gospel Doctrine. It wasn't until I walked alone into a church meeting where I knew nobody that I came across a copy of The Pearl of Great Price, where I finally found the answer. I met a pair of stake missionaries that day and started the discussions.
I was unhappy about the lifestyle at my college, and I was very interested in BYU. I was accepted there and finished my bachelors degree there. I later married in the temple.
I was baptized December 1, 1973. One of the stake missionaries that taught me, now a retired schoolteacher, is still in my ward. The other has long since passed away.
I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the Osmond Family.
As for the title, when I asked my father what he thought about my joining the church, he said, "It's OK with me, because you can always get out of it if you want to." FAT CHANCE.
